Tom has had a remarkable and brief career path to date :-
- Tom sat in a kart for the first time in May 2005.
- Two hours later he signed for a professional Kart Team.
- Two weeks later he won his first race, in the wet, beating the kart club’s reigning champion.
- Four weeks later he tested for Formula BMW, passed his ARDS test earning a race licence only 4 weeks after his 15th birthday and at the same time he won a place on the BMW Scholarship Final in Valencia, Spain.
- Tom completed his Rookie year racing in the 2006 Formula BMW UK Championship for 2005 Formula BMW UK Championship winning team Nexa Racing. In 2006 Tom was the youngest driver in a single seat championship.
- Tom was offered the senior driver for Team Loctite (the most competitive team in 2006) for the 2007 Formula BMW UK Championship. He was to receive sponsorship from Loctite. Unfortunately the drive fell through due to lack of other funds.

- In October 2006 he qualified to hold an International race licence, at that time he was the 2nd youngest driver in the World to hold one.
- In November, Tom took part in the 2006 Dell Formula BMW World Finals with them (Oliver Turvey - the Mclaren Autosport Young Driver of the YearWinner - was his team mate) and was ranked 26th best junior driver in the World despite only contesting his first race in April 2006.
